Education

Curtis Jones Jr. is a councilman who has made education a top priority in his work representing the 4th district. He has taken steps to improve education opportunities for residents, such as increasing career technical education opportunities, funding multimedia studios, and preventing the closure of Lankenau High School. Jones has also worked to aid in the opening of KIPP and Global Leadership Charter Schools, create the Safe Avenues Program, and increase access to pre-K. Through these efforts, Jones is committed to improving educational opportunities and outcomes for residents in the 4th district.

On the issue of Education, Councilman Jones has:

  • Increased Career Technical Education Opportunities in Overbrook and Randolph High Schools: Curtis Jones Jr. has made efforts to increase career technical education opportunities in Overbrook and Randolph High Schools. This includes working to provide students with access to hands-on training and skills-based learning opportunities that will help prepare them for successful careers in the future.

  • Funded the construction of multimedia studios at Overbrook High School, Roxborough High School, and Barry Elementary School: Curtis Jones Jr. has funded the construction of multimedia studios at Overbrook High School, Roxborough High School, and Barry Elementary School. These studios will provide students with access to state-of-the-art technology and equipment that will help them to develop skills in areas such as video production, digital media, and graphic design.

  • Prevented the closure of Lankenau High School: Curtis Jones Jr. played a role in preventing the closure of Lankenau High School. He worked with stakeholders in the community to ensure that the school remained open, providing students with access to a high-quality education and a supportive learning environment.

  • Aiding in the opening of KIPP and Global Leadership Charter Schools: Curtis Jones Jr. has been instrumental in the opening of KIPP and Global Leadership Charter Schools. He has worked to support the development and growth of these schools, which provide students with alternative education options and access to innovative programs and resources.

  • Created the Safe Avenues Program: Curtis Jones Jr. created the Safe Avenues Program, a weekly communication process between seven schools that created safe and efficient corridors for students to travel to and from school. This program helps to ensure that students have access to safe and secure routes to and from school, reducing the risk of accidents or incidents along the way.

  • Working on program to create avenue for non-traditional cutting edge careers in aquaponics and hydroponics: Curtis Jones Jr. is working on a program to create avenues for non-traditional, cutting-edge careers in aquaponics and hydroponics. This program will provide students with access to training and education in these innovative fields, helping to prepare them for careers in the growing and dynamic industries of the future.

  • Ensured increased access to pre-K for our youngest 4th district residents: Curtis Jones Jr. has ensured increased access to pre-K programs for the youngest residents in the 4th district. This provides young children with a strong foundation for their future education and success, and helps to support families and communities in the district.

  • Increased dollars for summer job experience and created an Internship Tax Credit to incentivize employers and youth to engage in internships: Curtis Jones Jr. has increased funding for summer job experiences and created an Internship Tax Credit to incentivize employers and youth to engage in internships.
